 此前，当微软宣布Windows 7会有六个版本时，相信多数人都情不自禁地抖了一下。大多数人连Vista的版本还没理清，又要陷入Windows 7版本的迷惑中去了。但是微软对此却很有信心， 因为有Netbooks。

由于Windows 7在内核上作出了改进，对硬件需求远比Vista要低，也就是说，现在正在运行Windows XP的机器都能流畅运行Windows 7，至少Windows 7 Starter版本可以。但是，由于Starter版本只能运行三个程序的限制，微软预计会有不少Netbooks用户会升级到Windows 7 Home Basic或Home Premium。

目前，HP已经确认会在其Netbooks上预装Windows 7，而且Windows 7 Beta在SONY VAIO P上运行相当流畅。不过到底Windows 7 Starter版本能否促使用户升级到Home Basic，而不是Linux还需要时间来证明。
