 此前，曾有传言称，微软将不会提供XP→Windows 7的升级，来自商业周刊的消息称微软可能会发售一款价格相对便宜的升级版本。下面是微软的官方陈述：

微软将会尽力使所有用户都能轻松升级至WIndows 7。通过升级工具、向导以及合作厂商的努力，我们相信这将会是一次愉快的过程。另外，对于XP用户，如果想要体验WIndows 7的话，我们建议购买新电脑。因为XP用户只能通过全新安装的方式升级到Windows 7。
