 此前，无论是6801还是6956，只要你使用Blue Badge将隐藏功能全部打开，这几个版本看起来和此前的M3版没什么两样。

但当Windows 7 Beta发布后，一切都不同了，这个版本功能特性完整，稳定性和兼容性强。从M3发布时，我就一直在使用Windows 7，而装上Windows 7 Beta后，我得说：“Windows 7不是Vista。”

安装Windows 7 Beta

比起Vista来，整个安装过程更简单，更流畅。这本身就是自XP依赖的一大改进。

比如，在Vista中，在开始安装前，你需要经过8个步骤，而在Windows 7中，只有5步。不过，在Vista中，进入桌面前用户需要进行6步输入和设置，还有令人厌烦的性能测试。在Windows 7中，这一数字增加到了7。

通过性能上的一些改进，Windows 7 Beta的安装比Vista要快得多，尤其是在虚拟机上安装时差距更显著。如果是物理机器安装的话，这一过程大概只需20分钟左右。

使用Windows 7 Beta

桌面增强

跟PDC上演示的版本相比，微软在Windows 7 Beta中进行了不少桌面改进，包括有争议的新任务栏。有关这个争议，参考之前的文章：简洁性VS易用性 Windows 7的疑惑

此外，有关快捷方式，也有一些问题。在Windows 7 Beta中，如果你觉得某个程序比较重要，你可以让它常驻任务栏，但它不会再在"最近打开的程序列表"中出现了。不过这也就是Windows 7最大的缺点了。

Aero Peek，这个功能我们在前面已经介绍过了，这里就不多说了。Windows 7 Beta中就包含了全功能了Aero Peek，这个功能相当实用，尤其是如果你经常使用Windows 7 桌面小工具（Vista中边栏的改进版本）的话。

开始菜单中的Jump Lists也是一项非常实用的功能。当鼠标移过某个程序时，右边就会出现该程序的扩展菜单。比如，当鼠标移过Word时，右边就会显示最近用Word打开的文档；当移过IE时，右边就会显示最近浏览过的网页。

另外，开始按钮的用户界面上也有些改变，比如关机按钮现在可以自定义了。

行为中心（新的安全中心）

至于行为中心（新的安全中心）也有了新的图标。

个性化菜单中提供了几款预置主题，用户还可以自行搭配主题，壁纸，声音，屏保等。

资源管理器

而资源管理器也有了一些改变。“下载”不再是Windows 7库中的一个分支了，而是单独为其列出了一个物理文件夹（库是虚拟文件夹）。这更加说得通了。UI上的变化也少，新的界面很讨人喜欢。

网络

网络与共享中心并没有多少变化

内建程序

至于内置的一些程序，比如Windows Mail, Messenger, Movie Maker和Photo Gallery都已经不再集成在Windows 7中了，Windows日历和联系人也都消失了。与前任相比，Windows Media Player上的改进也不小。

媒体中心在M3进行了大幅升级，但Beta版的改进不多。另外诸如写字板、画笔等程序也没有变化。

IE浏览器在Beta版中进行了不小的升级，包含了即将发布的IE8 RC中许多改进兼容性的功能，网页显示不正常的现象大大减少。

硬件管理

新的硬件管理更加让人满意，所有设备一目了然，很有可能会取代设备管理器。

总的来说，Windows 7是值得推荐的。

Installing the Windows 7 Beta

First up on the list of things that hasn't changed in the Windows 7 Beta is the interactive Setup routine, which you typically launch by booting your PC with the Windows 7 Beta DVD. (Separate x86 and x64 versions are available but are identical from a usage standpoint.) In keeping with the design mantra of Windows 7, Setup is simpler and more streamlined than that of Windows Vista, which was itself a huge improvement over the Windows XP Setup rigmarole.

For example, to clean install (not upgrade) Windows Vista, you had to step through 8 screens worth of information before the OS began installing. With Windows 7, this number has been cut to 5. And in Vista, the post-Setup configuration phase required six screens of input, followed by an annoyingly lengthy performance test: In Windows 7, this number actually increases to 7 because of an optional homegroup setup screen. (In both Vista and Windows 7, you will face one additional post-Setup screen if you must connect to a wireless network.)
